Why Do Babies Throw Up Breast Milk?

Have you ever wondered if your babies throwing up breast milk? There are many causes of this condition. In fact, one of the more serious causes of babies throwing up their breast milk is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is the cause of death for a vast number of newborns every year. Although not officially linked to breastfeeding itself, it is thought that the two may be closely linked and babies who suffer from SIDS have a greater risk of suffering from other life-threatening conditions like asthma and bronchitis.

How does SIDS affect your baby? When a child suddenly drops out of their sleep and stops breathing, their body will not be able to get enough blood to supply them with oxygen and nutrients. Shortness of breath and the tightness in the chest can cause an insufficient amount of milk to be produced by the breast milk ducts. This will cause the stomach to fill with undigested stomach fluid which can, in turn, cause pneumonia. As the lungs begin to fill with air, it can cause a change in heart rate and force the baby to cry out in pain. As each breath becomes quieter and softer, the baby will stop crying but they will also tend to breathe much harder and faster than normal.

So how do you tell if your babies throwing up breast milk are having these complications? The symptoms to watch for include gasping for breath during quiet moments, a change in appetite, irritability, not gaining weight, inability to control body temperature, and constant crying. If you are worried about any of these symptoms then it is best to take your child to see the doctor immediately as they could have an ear infection or something else that needs attention. In more extreme cases, your baby may not be eating enough so if they are throwing up breast milk you should take them straight to the hospital.

The reason why babies cry is that they are experiencing pain in their throats. For many babies, the only way to express their distress is through their tears. This process of guttation helps them release toxins and bacteria that may be in their colostrum or from other milk components. If the milk in the breast is in the form of liquid, such as expressing or condensed, then it can contain many harmful elements. For instance, mastitis is caused when bacteria lodges itself in the mother’s milk and this causes inflammation of the breasts.

You might wonder what else might cause babies to throw up. Another issue is dehydration. Your baby may not be drinking enough fluids. Dehydration occurs when a baby’s body is not getting enough water to maintain internal functions such as digestion. It also can be caused by vomiting or insufficient fluid intake in babies. One thing to note is that when babies are extremely dehydrated they will usually exhibit a pale color to their skin and may even appear to be lifeless.

Eating a lot of solid foods can also cause excessive milk production. If the baby is consuming more food than they need, then they may feel hunger more often. Also, if a baby is not gaining enough weight, they may have problems producing enough milk. A severe weight gain could cause some complications such as excessive fluid retention and necrosis of the nipple and occasionally the entire breast.

There are also rare but serious complications that can arise from some medical conditions. These include severe infections that involve the intestines. One common condition is acute peritonitis, which causes severe pain in the abdomen. Babies sometimes get an infection when their colostrum is not released because the mother has given birth and the bowel muscles are damaged. Another problem that babies throwing up can have is sepsis, a bloodstream infection. Sepsis is a life-threatening blood infection that can occur if the blood supply to the intestines is cut off, resulting in the necrosis of tissue.

In general, babies throwing up can be prevented by ensuring a good diet, regular sleep, and waking rhythms. If the mother is experiencing a medical condition or if the baby is extremely underweight, it may be best to consult a doctor to find the cause of the problem. Once the cause is determined, there are many ways that it can be addressed. Preventing babies from throwing up in the first place is usually much easier than addressing health issues that may arise later on.
